Auditions for Ages 5 (or so) to 18 — “The Brothers Grimm Tale of Snow White”

Auditions for The Brothers Grimm Tale of Snow White
— 2016 Children & Youth Show

Brush Creek Players will be opening our 2016 season with “The Brothers Grimm Tale of Snow White” — but first we have to get just the right cast in place!.

Who: Young actors and would-be actors, ages 5 (or so) thru 18, regardless of experience level.

What: Auditions for The Brothers Grimm Tale of Snow White, by Michael Wood (returning to the Brush Creek stage following its premiere in 2009).

When: 1 pm, Saturday, December 5, — and 1 pm, Sunday, December 6.

Where: Brush Creek Playhouse, 11535 Silverton Road, between Salem and Silverton (enter the parking lot from Brush Creek Road).

Why: Because it’s fun! Take the chance to let your creative side run wild!.

The Brothers Grimm recorded the folk tale of Snow White hundreds of years ago — but you may not know the whole story. Do you think you know the story of the beautiful young princess, her evil stepmother, the seven delightfully quirky dwarfs who give her refuge, the evil spell that threatens her doom, and the prince who comes to her rescue? You may be in for a surprise or two!

Rehearsals will begin in January and run until the show opens on Friday, February 19 — it will run weekends through Sunday, March 6. We normally run four performances of the children & youth show each weekend, but we also usually run two separate casts, so it will be possible to accommodate a limited number of performance conflicts.

The production will be directed again this year by long-time children & youth show director Linda Zellner — with the support of Assistant Director Emily Wood.

“The Search for the Fairy Princess” comes to Brush Creek Friday, Feb 13 thru Sunday, March 1

Brush Creek’s 2015 season opens with this year’s children & youth show, a fun and original fairy tale.  The Search for the Fairy Princess, written by Michael & Emily Wood and directed by Linda Zellner, takes place in depression-era Nebraska and in the fairy world of Avalon. The show runs from Friday, Feb 13 thru Sunday, March, with performances at 7 pm on Fridays & Saturdays and matinees at 2 pm on Saturdays & Sundays.

Terri, Kathy and Janie learn the story of the Fairy Princess at their great-grandmother’s knee: In the tale, two sisters, Elissa and Bethany, and their friend Thomas learn about Avalon and meet fairies (both friendly and evil), goblins and trolls as they join the search for the fabled Fairy Princess. And when tragedy strikes, the search for the Fairy Princess becomes even more urgent than before.

Tickets ($10 general admission and $8 for seniors 60 and over, children 12 and under, and students with ID) will go on sale in February at our ticket-selling partners:

Children and Youth Play A Success

Thanks to Linda Zellner and the many other people, this year’s children and youth play was a success! Michael Wood wrote a fun play called “Jack and the Beanstalk.” One of the best benefits was making new friends and getting more young people excited about acting and the theater.

Please watch for an announcement for auditions for Norman’s play “My Three Angels.” It too looks to be another great production!

Thank you Linda for 18 years! or is it more? of inspiration, patience and sharing your passion for drama to all those impressionable small folks.

And a huge thank you to all the children and youth and their families. We have new outside lights. We heard lots of laughter and fabulous costumes and props and just one set. Wow that is a first for Michael. The time families make to help with these productions is what makes them possible! Yahoo to such great team work.

Jack & the Beanstalk opens at Brush Creek Playhouse on February 15

Brush Creek Players are opening their annual children and youth show, Jack & the Beanstalk, on Friday, February 15. The play will run four performances for three weekends through March 3, 2013.

“The story of Jack, a somewhat naïve young man who does great things, is a wonderful story,” said Michael Wood, the play’s author.  “And Brush Creek’s offering is a good-natured adaptation of the classic tale.  It has all the standard elements, as well as some of the good-humored twists that Brush Creek’s original children’s shows have become known for.”

“Linda Zellner is a wonderful director for young actors, and we have a great mix of new and experienced cast this year,” Wood said.  “She helps them realize what they can do to bring characters to life – even characters that are very different from the actors themselves.”

The play, which rotates between two almost completely different casts to give as many actors as possible an opportunity to perform, will include 7 p.m. performances on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. matinees on Saturdays and Sundays.

Tickets are $10 for general admission, with discounted tickets for students with a valid ID ($8), for those over 60 ($7) and for those under 12 ($7).

Tickets can be purchased in advance at Stampin’Cat Studio on S.E. Commercial in Salem and at Books-N-Time on N. Water in downtown Silverton.  Tickets also will be available at the door 30 minutes before each performance.

Those seeking further information can contact Michael Wood at 503-508-3682.
